Erin Daly

Author information

Erin is a 2011 Catholics on Call alum who is now serving the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston as a missionary out of the Bishop Hodges Pastoral Center in Huttonsville, West Virginia.  So far her job has involved serving the poor in her area, camping, canoeing, zip-lining, log rolling, learning fun new campfire songs, making awesome friends, and learning that her guitar-playing and singing abilities are nowhere near as poor as she thought.  It will also involve traveling the state of West Virginia to bring Jesus to young people.  When she’s not busy with her ministry tasks, Erin likes to listen to music and write.

Christmas celebrations in the Daly household have been about the same for the past few years. We buy each other Secret Santa gifts, we open presents Christmas morning, we go to a few family get-togethers.

A few months ago, during adoration after the Holy Thursday service at St. Andrew’s Church in Verona, Wisconsin, I found myself kneeling before a statue of the Virgin Mary and reciting a prayer asking to be made ready to do God’s work.  I had no idea why I was saying that prayer, apart from the fact that it was taped to the donation box in front of me.  But I figured it was as good as any other prayer I could have said in that moment.  So I went with it.  Maybe it would come in handy.  Maybe I was praying for something I didn’t even know I needed.
