Catholics on Call has been featured in the radio show "Reflecting Christ's Light." The program is based on the Archdiocese of Chicago's Pastoral Plan and currently spotlighting young Catholics as part of the 2012 Year of Teens and Young Adults. Nancy Polacek of the Department of Parish Life and Formation interviewed Program Coordinator Birgit Oberhofer and four alums: Josh Jones, Krystal Funk, Katrina Skayne and Joe Quane.

We have received news that the Serra International Foundation has approved a grant over $10,000 to support the Catholics on Call program. We are very grateful to the Serra Foundation for their decision and humbled by this opportunity to work together on our common goal of "fostering and promoting vocations in the Catholic Church!"

After Fr. Ed Shea, O.F.M. had served as the Faculty Moderator for Catholics on Call during the past year, he has been reassigned by his community this spring. He left his position as a Formation Director and moved to St. Peter in the Loop in downtown Chicago to serve the community there. On August 15, Fr. Steve Bevans, S.V.D., an amazing teacher here at CTU, has started as the new Factulty Moderator for Catholics on Call. Please join me in saying thanks to Fr. Ed for his service and contribution to the program and in saying welcome to Fr.

The Harvest Award is presented at the biennial Convocation of the National Religious Vocation Conference (NRVC) to an "individual or organization who has provided significant support of vocation ministry."

At the 2010 NRVC Convocation "Casting the Net" in Cleveland, this year's Harvest Award was given to Catholics on Call for "dedicated service and exemplary support of vocation ministry in the Catholic Church."

Probably by now we have all heard about the tragic death of Declan Sullivan at Notre Dame a couple weeks ago. We here at Catholics on Call share in the grief of the Sullivan and Notre Dame families, and we invite everyone to pray for healing. The night after Declan's death a Mass was celebrated at Sacred Heart Basilica and the crowd was so huge that it flowed across the campus into the student center. The following is reflection by a student who did not even know Declan but who found herself caught up in the mystery of what was happening.

On May 14, 2009, the Honorable Marcy Kaptur of Ohio introduced a resolution into the US House of Representatives honoring the historic contributions of Catholic women religious. The resolution "honors and commends Catholic sisters for their humble service and courageous sacrifice throughout the history of this nation; and supports the goals of the Women & Spirit: Catholic Sisters in America Traveling Exhibit, a project sponsored by the Leadership Conference of Women Religious (LCWR) in association with Cincinnati Museum Center and established to recognize the historical contributions of Catholic sisters in the United States."
