Belonging to the Truth

Scripture Reflection for The Solemnity Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe (November 22, 2015)
Scripture Readings:
Daniel 7:13-14
Psalms 93:1, 1-2, 5
Revelation 1:5-8
John 18:33b-37
"So Pilate said to him, 'Then you are a king?' Jesus answered, 'You say I am a king. For this I was born and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone who belongs to the truth listens to my voice.'"
Sometimes in life we are faced with stressful situations. These situations can be so hard that we begin to experience sadness, fear, and even doubt. There are also times when we may feel as though we are going through a storm. Your vision can be so clouded that you feel as though all hope is gone and that there is absolutely no solution to the problem.
I have been there. When I woke up this morning I was in pain, I felt nauseous and immediately began to vomit. Mornings like this are usually frustrating for me because it goes on from time to time and it's hard for me to begin my day this way. As I was in pain this morning, I began to pray. I thought about all of the things that Jesus has done for me. How he has loved me unconditionally, how he has saved me, and how he has remained by my side daily. I felt as though everything would be okay.
When reading the Scripture I was reminded about all of the things that Jesus has endured for me just so I could experience "his truth". I began to think that although there are times that we experience pain and are faced with stressful life situations we should be comforted by the fact that because I belong to this truth, if I remain faithful and prayerful, Jesus will guide me along the way.
As we gather for the Eucharist this Sunday, let us give thanks to Jesus for his love for us and let us listen to his voice, in whatever situation we are, to respond to his call of love.
