Lecture Series: Crispina and Her Sisters: Women and Authority in Early Christianity-

Sister of St. Joseph Christine Schenk’s award-winning book, Crispina and Her Sisters (Fortress Press) explores visual imagery found on burial artifacts of prominent early Christian women. It carefully situates the tomb art within the cultural context of customary Roman commemorations of the dead and provides an in-depth review of women’s history in the first four centuries of Christianity. From this, a fascinating picture emerges of women’s authority in the early church, a picture either not available or recognized, or sadly distorted in the written history. Sr. Chris’s presentation features powerpoint images and will include a book-signing. Join us on Sunday, February 17, 2019, 3:00-4:30 pm. RSVP with Sister Benita Coffey, OSB: 773.764.2413 x 327. Sponsored by the Benedictine Oblates and open to the public.  For directions to the monastery and more information: www.osbchicago.org/programs.
