Reflections On Call

Humanity, as flawed as it may be, is beautiful

I ran home for some family stuff this weekend, and had the opportunity to go back to Our Lady of Lourdes, my home parish, for the first time since joining TFA back in June. Upon walking in with my mother, we were pointed out, "We need you!" Turns out they were desperate for Eucharistic Ministers. Besides the fact that our church changed all the rules since the last time I was there, I was told to fake like I knew what I was doing and got to participate in the mass.
Watching members of the congregation receive the Blood of Christ was awe inspiring. I had been a Eucharistic Minister before, but I've never seen or felt what I saw last night. All types of people were actually yearning to receive Christ and become his temple, as was the message of the scripture. I watched people visibly change and receive peace and strength through the Eucharist.
This moment somehow brought me back to earlier in the day, when I had spent the morning in DMV bonding with strangers over whether or not our number would ever be called. Again, a bunch of anonymous people were all on even playing field, and making the most of their time through laughter, asking about each other's small children, talking about the car someone finally was able to buy, or the new permit a girl hoped she could finally get. There were high fives and celebrations for those that made it to the front desk.
Just goes to show you that we get caught up in life...a lot....but at the end of the day we all yearn for the same things, and we need to look to one another to keep us inspired, keep us laughing, and to keep us going, because we are the spirit of God to one another. Despite the lost souls that get us down, the majority of people are on the same team.
