Reflections On Call
I had the privilege of attending the Catholics on Call Conference in June 2009. I found the weekend to be a very beneficial opportunity, one I have already suggested to many friends. As a seeker of knowledge and truth regarding my Catholic faith, I was happy to learn more about prayer, the discernment process, and a variety of vocations within the Church. I feel as though many of the contacts I made, both personal and professional, will be valuable in the future.
As I face the challenges of being an inner city Catholic school teacher in a struggling diocese, I can at times doubt my call to be a teacher and catechist. It was wonderful to leave Catholics on Call feeling refreshed, informed, encouraged. It relieved my fears that I was the only young person feeling lost and trying to make sense of life. I was pleasantly surprised to meet so many young people with whom I had much in common. Many of my new friends share in my love and enthusiasm for the Catholic faith. Many also share in my struggle to live out my faith in today’s society.
I believe that God blesses us with people and opportunities in life that nudge us toward Him. This conference challenged me in a meaningful way.
